Emotion

Holding a gift bag in her hand, Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong, a worker at Nam Lee International Company Limited (Kinh Mon), emotionally said that the gift bag had cakes, candies for incense burning and 1 million VND in cash. Ms. Luong said that she would use that money to buy her children new clothes. "A poor family can only afford a few hundred VND for Tet, even a million VND would be enough," Ms. Luong shared. Ms. Luong has thyroid cancer, her husband does not have a stable job, she is the main breadwinner in the family, has to raise 2 children, and has many difficulties. Ms. Luong is one of 50 workers and laborers in Kinh Mon town who received gifts. Although the gift is not large in material value, Ms. Luong is very happy because she is cared for by all levels, especially the gift from the leaders of the Party and State. Because her family is in difficult circumstances, the union and the company often propose to consider giving her gifts on holidays and Tet. Trusting that the union organization will take care of her, every time Tet comes, spring comes, Ms. Luong is somewhat less worried.

This time, Ms. Bui Thi Dinh, a worker at Leo Industries Far East Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Kim Thanh) also received Tet gifts from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. Near Tet, Ms. Dinh and more than 300 workers of this enterprise lost their jobs due to difficulties and had to stop production, many of whom were in difficult circumstances. Although the enterprise fully performed its obligations and ensured legitimate rights for workers before stopping production, everyone felt disappointed because they did not know where to find work or what to do after Tet. However, with the attention of the trade union organization, first of all, workers here will be found and introduced to jobs by the Kim Thanh District Labor Federation. Workers in difficult circumstances will receive Tet gifts. Those gifts have reached the workers in time, erasing their worries and sadness at the end of the year, helping them to have more confidence in the trade union organization.

In 2023, with the efforts of businesses and the participation of all levels and sectors, most workers received Tet bonuses and gifts. In stable production enterprises, there are also many employee gratitude programs such as lucky draws and year-end parties. And businesses facing difficulties have also arranged resources to take care of Tet for workers even though many production orders are unprofitable.

Demonstrate the role of trade unions

Sharing the difficulties with workers, the Provincial Federation of Labor has requested trade unions at all levels to focus on taking care of workers, especially grassroots trade unions. Grassroots trade unions clearly demonstrate their role and responsibility in protecting workers' rights.

According to the Kinh Mon Town Labor Federation, this Tet, the entire town has 329 union members in difficult circumstances who will receive gifts at the program "Tet sum vay - xuan chia chia" organized by the unit. In addition, the town's Labor Federation also coordinated with a number of enterprises to support 30 workers in difficult circumstances. Coordinated with the town's Red Cross Society to give 400 dresses and shirts to children of workers at a number of enterprises. At the same time, 150 union members in difficult circumstances were selected to receive shopping cards worth 300,000 VND/person through the electronic trading floor "2024 Union Tet Market". Up to now, grassroots unions have reported that they have given Tet bonuses to workers, an average of 3.5 million VND/person.

This year, the provincial-level program “Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Chia Chia” will be held on the afternoon of January 26, giving away 450 gifts, an increase of 100 gifts compared to the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Quy Mao (each gift is worth 1 million VND, including 500,000 VND in cash, gifts and money for buying train and bus tickets). In addition to the program, there will be 2 “0 VND” booths for 1,000 union member coupons received before, each coupon allows you to choose an item worth 250,000 VND including fish sauce, cooking oil, MSG, etc. The grassroots trade unions have proactively arranged funds to take care of Tet for poor workers so that everyone has Tet gifts, joy in the new spring, and more motivation for workers in production.

Compared to previous years, Tet care activities for workers have gone into depth, paying practical attention to workers' lives. Business owners have listened to workers' thoughts and aspirations to work with grassroots unions to adjust the terms more suitable for workers. Therefore, although 2023 is difficult, the whole province has only had 1 collective work stoppage, a significant decrease compared to previous years. In the coming time, unions at all levels will actively improve the qualifications and capacity of union officials to jointly build harmonious and civilized labor relations in enterprises, so that workers are increasingly happier and more excited when going to work.
