Thousands of locals and visitors have attended a ceremony to commemorate the 572nd death anniversary of National Hero, World Cultural Celebrity Nguyen Trai.

Thousands of locals and visitors from near and far on the morning of September 9 (the 16th day of the 8th lunar month) attended ceremonies to commemorate the 572nd death anniversary of National Hero, World Cultural Celebrity Nguyen Trai and cast Arhat statues at Con Son relic site (Hai Duong).

At the ceremony to commemorate National Hero and World Cultural Celebrity Nguyen Trai, there were rituals of asking for and welcoming literature statement to his temple.

The procession ceremony was solemnly held in accordance with Buddhist and traditional rituals. At the forefront was a unicorn and dragon dance team, followed by large fruit and cake trays, a dragon feature carved palanquin with a censer placed inside, and Buddhist monks and nuns.

In his commemorative speech, Mr. Nguyen Van Que, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Organizing Board of the 2014 Con Son – Kiep Bac Autumn Festival, highlighted the significance and importance of the land of Con Son in history and great contribution of National Hero, World Cultural Celebrity Nguyen Trai, a preeminent politician, militant, diplomat, and culturist of the nation.

After the celebrity oration had been read out, the provincial leaders, locals, and visitors from near and far burned incense to commemorate National Hero, World Cultural Celebrity Nguyen Trai and burned commemorative incense at Tran Nguyen Dan temple.

The Arhat statue casting ceremony solemnly took place right on the yard of Con Son pagoda with an incense offering ceremony of the provincial leaders and visitors from near and far, Buddhist monks' rituals of Buddha praying, incantation, and sprinkling of scented water to purify everything.

18 Arhat statues to be casted will weigh 1 – 1.5 tons each and be made of bronze. The statues of Mahakasyapa (180cm high) and Ananda (178cm high) were casted right at the ceremony.

During the casting process, cash and gold and silver were donated by many Buddhist followers and visitors from near and far. Man Ngoc Anh, Director-General cum Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hanaka Group (Bac Ninh), contributed VND200 million separately for the casting of one Arhat statue.
