In Hai Duong, there were many generals participating in Lam Son uprising, trusted by Le Loi, and together with him defeating the enemy and reuniting the country.
Remembering the merit, people built communal houses or shrines to worship many generals after their death. Following are five typical relics.
Do Xa communal house
Do Xa communal house in Ung Hoe commune, Ninh Giang district, worships three siblings Nguyen Ton, Nguyen Lau, and Nguyen Lang. Appointed as generals commanding 5,000 troops by Le Loi, the talented men made the enemy suffer a bitter defeat.
Do Xa communal house was built in the Later Le dynasty with a relatively large scale. Two festivals take place at the communal house on every 11th day of the 11th lunar month and every 10th day of the 3rd lunar month (birth and death anniversaries of the three tutelary gods).
Thien Ky temple
Thien Ky temple on Ke Son mountain slope in Hoanh Son commune, Kinh Mon provincial town, is the birthplace of Nguyen Dinh Huc, a native who formed an uprising headquarters and was appointed second-in-command conducting a military wing.
In 1991, the temple was rebuilt in the shape of Chinese character ding (丁) with a five-compartment front chamber and a single-compartment back one.
Previously, many valuable antiques were kept at the temple but then partially lost because of wars and natural disasters. At present, there remain a couple of stone sau from the Later Le dynasty, a truc dai tree, and a stone incense burner.
The annual festival is held from the 16th to the 18th day of the 1st lunar month.
Pham Xa communal house
Pham Xa communal house in Ngoc Son commune, Hai Duong city, worships Duc Thanh Ca, whose pseudonym is Chieu Huan Ngu Thong, with the merit of participating in the fight against Ming invaders.
During the resistance war, he was a military officer defending the vast Northeast region and building a base in Doan Bai (now in Toan Thang commune, Gia Loc district).
The communal house was built in the Later Le dynasty. At the relic, there are many sculptures bearing the artistic style of the Le dynasty like wicked dragons, hong leaves, tiger faces, etc.
The traditional festival of the communal house takes place on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month with the ritual of sacrificing three animals and a worshipping pig contest.
An Thuy communal house

In the past, An Thuy was a land of immense canes, reeds, and waterways.
At the beginning of the Tran dynasty (13th century), King Hung Nhuong Tran Quoc Tang came there to set up a food warehouse to serve the resistance war against Yuan invaders. The remaining vestige is a temple of Tran Quoc Tang next to Nong wharf of the commune.
Built in the Later Le dynasty, the relic has been repaired many times, the last being in 1916.
There remain many valuable antiques from the Nguyen dynasty at the work, such as cua vong (sagged door), long dinh (dragon pavilion), bat buu (eight weapons), mam trien (large wooden compote), bat cong (eight-pole palanquin) cross-arms, etc.
The traditional festival is held from the 10th to the 13th day of the 3rd lunar month.
