Former lieutenant kills lover, throws body in river, gets life sentence
A former police lieutenant in Tien Giang killed his lover and dumped the victim's body in the river. He received a life sentence for his actions.
On March 14, the People's Court of Tien Giang province sentenced defendant Ngo Minh Thong (30 years old, former lieutenant of the Criminal Police Team of Cai Lay Town Police, Tien Giang province) to life in prison for murder and robbery (of which murder is sentenced to life in prison, robbery is sentenced to 3 years in prison). This is a case that has caused a stir in local public opinion recently.
According to the indictment, since 2020, defendant Ngo Minh Thong, while working at the Criminal Police Team of Cai Lay Town Police, despite being married, had an illicit relationship with Ms. NTH (born in 1996, residing in Ward 2, Cai Lay Town).
During the time of his relationship with H., Thong realized that he was wrong and repeatedly asked to break up, but H. did not agree and threatened to tell his wife and his agency. Fearing that the matter would be discovered, Thong came up with the idea of killing this girl.
At around 1:00 p.m. on December 27, 2023, Thong took his lover out to eat and drink, then checked into a hotel in Dao Thanh commune, My Tho city, Tien Giang province.
That same evening, Thong drove H. to buy beer and food to eat on the Tien River embankment (My Tho City). At around 11 p.m. that same day, Thong drove H. to an empty lot in the square (in Dao Thanh Commune, My Tho City) and proposed to end the relationship, but H. did not agree.
Here, Thong strangled H. from behind, causing H. to die, then put the body and many rocks in a bag (prepared in advance), tied it up, and put it in the car. Then Thong drove the car to the middle of Ham Luong bridge in Binh Phu commune, Ben Tre city, Ben Tre province, took the bag containing H.'s body, threw it into Ham Luong river, and drove away.
Thong also took his lover's phone and then destroyed it.
When Ben Tre City residents discovered H.'s body floating in the Ham Luong River, they reported it to the police. The investigation agency later discovered that Ngo Minh Thong was the perpetrator of this murder and body disposal case.
Working with the investigation agency, Thong admitted all his illegal acts.
