Spending nearly $88,000 on a piece of Pokémon-shaped chips
The world's only snack shaped like the Pokémon character Charizard has just been sold for nearly $88,000 at Goldin Auctions.
A 7cm long Cheetos chip shaped like Charizard, a Fire-Dragon type Pokémon character, named “Cheetozard” and mounted on a custom Pokémon card, housed in a protective case.
According to auction house Goldin Auctions, the collectible was discovered and preserved by a sports memorabilia company between 2018 and 2022, before suddenly becoming famous on social media last year.
The auction starts at250 USDin mid-February and quickly escalated, closing at72,000 USD, not including the purchase fee. In total, the anonymous buyer spent nearly88,000 USDto own this snack, according to CNN.
Cheetos, a snack brand owned by PepsiCo through its subsidiary Frito-Lay, also commented on the surprise deal. Cheetos' Instagram account commented with an eye emoji, implying surprise.
On social media, the story of Cheetozard has attracted a lot of attention with many mixed opinions. Some people were surprised that a Cheetos could sell for as much as a luxury car, while others expressed their interest in this collectible item.
This isn't the first time a uniquely shaped snack has fetched a high price. In 2017, a Cheetos shaped like Harambe, the famous gorilla, sold for nearly100,000 USDon eBay.
