Strong cold air is about to spread to the North
Temperatures in high mountainous areas are forecast to drop below 2 degrees Celsius, with the possibility of snow and ice on mountain peaks this weekend.

Early morning of February 7, cold air will affect Hai Duong area. Due to the influence of cold air, the weather in the area will be cloudy, with rain, light rain, from the afternoon of February 7 the weather will turn cold, the lowest temperature is commonly 13 - 15 degrees Celsius. The wind will change to strong northeast level 3.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that a strong cold air mass is moving, and will spread to the Northeast region early on February 7, then expand to the plains and Northwest. Because the North has been immersed in a cold air mass that has intensified since the night of February 2, combined with this new mass, the temperature will drop very low. The coldest temperature in the highlands is forecast to be below 2 degrees Celsius, in the mountains and midlands 5-8 degrees Celsius, and in the plains 9-12 degrees Celsius. Snow and frost may occur in the mountains.
Hanoi's temperature is forecast to gradually decrease from 14-19 degrees Celsius to 11-15 degrees Celsius on Saturday from now until the end of the week. Points higher than 1,500 meters such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai) will have temperatures of 4-7 degrees Celsius this weekend. It will rain, so the mountain peaks in O Quy Ho, Y Ty (Lao Cai), and Mau Son (Lang Son) are likely to have snow and ice.
From the morning of February 7, cold air will cause strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9, with waves 2-3 m high in the Gulf of Tonkin. The northern East Sea will have waves 3-5.5 m high. From the afternoon of February 7, the sea area of Quang Tri - Ca Mau, the middle of the East Sea, the southwest of the East Sea (including the west of Truong Sa archipelago), will have waves 3-5 m high.
The Central region will also be affected by cold air from the night of February 7, with temperatures in the North Central region ranging from 11-14 degrees Celsius, and in Quang Binh - Hue from 14-16 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological agency warned that the cold air will be accompanied by extreme weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, affecting agriculture and damaging houses, traffic works, and infrastructure.
Localized heavy rains may cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams; landslides on steep slopes. Cold weather may also affect livestock and crops.
In January 2025, there were three cold air waves that swept down to the North. Of which, the wave on January 26 caused temperatures in many places to drop below 5 degrees Celsius such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Dong Van (Ha Giang), and snow appeared. In most of the country, temperatures were generally 0.5-1.5 degrees Celsius lower than the average of many years.
The meteorological agency forecasts that in February 2025, cold air will continue to affect the North. The average temperature across the country will be approximately the same as the average for many years during the same period, with the North and Central Central regions being 0.5-1 degrees Celsius lower.
