La Tomatina is the largest fruit-throwing festival in Europe. Originating from a small brawl during a parade in 1945, the tradition has grown into a popular event that attracts large crowds. Before the tomato fight begins, participants are challenged to climb a slippery pole topped with a piece of pork. The event ends with a spectacular fireworks display. |

Workers on trucks dump 120 tons of ripe tomatoes onto the town's main street, creating a colorful "battle" for La Tomatina festivalgoers. The street fight leaves behind a scene where the streets, houses and participants are covered in bright red tomato paste. Tickets to the festival start at 12 euros (equivalent to13 USD). |

For an hour, tomatoes are crushed to avoid injury. They are then thrown everywhere. Meanwhile, participants are cooled off with buckets of water and sprinklers, turning the street into a red, viscous river in the hilarious fight. |
