Arrested treasury director for fraud and embezzlement of more than 2.3 billion VND
Mr. Cao Manh Thang, director of the State Treasury of Bac Me district (Ha Giang), was temporarily detained on charges of providing false information about stone mining, appropriating more than 2.3 billion VND from a woman.
Police read the indictment and temporary detention order against Mr. Thang.
On December 15, Ha Giang Provincial Police announced that the Economic Police Department had issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and temporarily detain for 4 months Mr. Cao Manh Thang (50 years old, residing in Tuyen Quang, director of the State Treasury of Bac Me district, Ha Giang) to investigate the act of fraud to appropriate property, as prescribed in Clause 4, Article 174 of the Penal Code.
The investigation results determined that around June 2021, Mr. Thang, in his position as director of the State Treasury of Bac Me district, took advantage of his acquaintance with Ms. Pham Thi L. (residing in Ha Giang city) to provide false information related to the exploitation of stone quarries in Giap Trung commune, Bac Me district in order to defraud and appropriate her property.
The amount of money that defendant Thang appropriated from Ms. L. was more than 2.3 billion VND.
The case is currently under further investigation by the police.
