Previously, at around 11:00 a.m. on November 25, at the toll station of the Thai Nguyen - Cho Moi Expressway (in Quang Trung hamlet, Son Cam commune, Thai Nguyen city), the Drug Crime Investigation Police Team of Thai Nguyen City Police in coordination with the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, Ministry of Public Security discovered and caught red-handed Nguyen Hong Son (born in 1964), residing in Group 2, Thinh Dan ward, Thai Nguyen city; residing in Group 3, Tan Thinh ward, Thai Nguyen city, illegally buying and selling drugs.

The seized evidence was 5 heroin cakes, weighing 1,750.499g, in a handbag in the back seat of the Mazda CX5 car with license plate 30F-82066 driven by the subject. At that time, Son drove to deliver drugs with his wife, but later the police determined that his wife was not involved in the incident.

At the investigation agency, Nguyen Hong Son stated that at the end of September, he went to Xuan Mai town, Hanoi to buy the above amount of heroin from a man named Duong for 800 million VND to sell in Thai Nguyen city and neighboring provinces. He planned to resell it for 190 million VND/cake, making a profit of 30 million VND/cake.

Son had a previous conviction for illegal drug trafficking and was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison in 2016. The case is still under investigation.
