Dog bite causes 1 person to die of rabies, 8 people need treatment

That is Mr. LXD, born in 1978, in Hoa Dong commune, Tay Hoa district. The disease started on March 9, the patient had symptoms of fever and fatigue.
In early December 2022, Mr. D. was bitten on the finger by a dog he kept at home (the dog was not vaccinated against rabies). After being bitten by the dog, he only disinfected the area with red medicine and did not go to a medical facility to get a rabies vaccine.
On March 9, Mr. D. had symptoms of fever and fatigue. He took medication (unknown type) but it did not improve. His family then took him to the doctor and he was hospitalized on March 11.
At Phu Yen General Hospital, the patient was diagnosed with rabies. On the same day, the patient was taken home and had contact with many family members.
On March 13, the patient had symptoms of abdominal distension, drowsiness, weak limbs, drooling, inability to eat or drink, and died at home on the morning of March 14.
Phu Yen Center for Disease Control determined that eight other people had close contact with Mr. D. and were bitten by his family's pet dog. Medical staff directed all of these people to medical facilities for consultation.
Tay Hoa District Medical Center has treated chemicals and local veterinary agencies have organized rabies vaccination for dogs and cats in Hoa Dong commune.
