Gold prices have broken out of the $2,000-$2,050 an ounce range that has been in place for much of this month. The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge, the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index, came in lower than expected in November, fueling speculation that the Fed will start cutting interest rates in March 2024.
However, limiting the gold price's gains somewhat in this session was data showing that home prices in 20 major US cities rose 4.9% in the 12 months through October, the ninth consecutive month of price increases, with a record high.
