2G
How do countries struggle to turn off 2G?
Vietnam is one of the successful countries to move from 2G to 4G and 5G networks, but not everywhere.
Turning off 2G waves is the most typical information technology event in Vietnam in 2024
Successfully shutting down 2G is an important milestone for Vietnam to move closer to the goal of universalizing 4G and 5G, promoting the digital economy and ensuring that no one is left behind in the national digital transformation process.
Before the 2G shutdown, Hai Duong still had 5,800 subscribers using "brick" phones.
Of the total of more than 188,000 subscribers using only 2G in Hai Duong province, there are still 5,800 subscribers who have not converted before the date this type of device is disabled.
2G phones will be disabled tomorrow
After being delayed once due to the impact of storm number 3, the plan to turn off 2G waves will officially be implemented tomorrow.
Before G hour, there are still 700,000 phones using 2G technology
Currently, there are about 700,000 phones in the country using 2G technology. By the middle of this month, the network operator will stop providing services to users of these "brick" phones.
The joy of "brick" phones
The 2G shutdown time has been delayed so that many "brick" phones can still be used. This is somewhat meaningful for the poor in the current context.
2G shutdown postponed to October 15
The Ministry of Information and Communications has postponed the shutdown of 2G waves by one month, in the context that there are still more than 3 million subscribers who have not changed their devices.
2G "retired"
2G technology is outdated and needs to be replaced with more modern technologies.
From September 16, stop serving subscribers using 2G Only phones
Completely turning off 2G waves aims to utilize frequency resources for more modern telecommunications technologies, in line with the development goals of the network operator and the country.
How to check real or fake 4G phone
Users can compose messages, access the web to check if the phone is 2G or 4G, before deciding to buy or upgrade the device.
