Cuu Pham Lien Hoa tower at Giam pagoda recognized as national treasure

Authorized by the Prime Minister, Mr. Nguyen Anh Cuong, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, awards the decision recognizing Cuu Pham Lien Hoa tower as a national treasure

Cam Son commune authorities (Cam Giang, Hai Duong) on March 22 morning held Giam pagoda festival, commemorated Great Physician, Zen Master Tue Tinh, and announced the Prime Minister's decision to recognize Cuu Pham Lien Hoa (nine-storeyed lotus-shaped) tower as a national treasure.

Giam pagoda is a place of worshipping and commemorating the Saint of Vietnamese traditional medicine – Great Physician, Zen Master Tue Tinh. Built in the Ly dynasty, the pagoda was restored in the 14th century by Tue Tinh.

From the late 17th century to the early 18th century, the pagoda was rebuilt on a large scale under the style of "noi cong, ngoai quoc". The pagoda was ranked national relic in 1974.

Especially, the pagoda has a hexagonal Cuu Pham Lien Hoa tower with intact ancient architecture. This is one of three nine-storeyed wood towers dating from the 17th century in the country.

Cuu Pham Lien Hoa towers have unique artistic architecture in Vietnam's ancient architectural treasure. Therefore, the Prime Minister decided to recognize the Cuu Pham Lien Hoa tower at Giam pagoda as a national treasure in 2015.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Anh Cuong, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, required the Party, government, and residents of Cam Son commune to intensify propaganda of the history, meaning, position, and importance of Giam pagoda and the national treasure of Cuu Pham Lien Hoa tower; well perform State management over belief and religious activities and festival organization; and enhance the role of people voluntarily joining in management, protection, and promotion of the relic's value.

Giam pagoda festival is taking place from March 22 – 24 with cultural, musical, and sport exchange programs.
